Hell Let Loose Vietnam Beta — Playtest History Explained
Every Hell Let Loose: Vietnam playtest before launch: FirstLook sign-ups, the May open beta weekend, the July crossplay test and how feedback shaped the game.
Was there a beta for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam?
Yes — Hell Let Loose: Vietnam ran a full testing program before launch, across three phases: open beta sign-ups from April 2026, a free Open Beta Weekend in late May, and a crossplay playtest in July. All of it ran on the FirstLook platform, and all of it is now closed — the game itself launched on August 13, 2026.
Beta sign-ups opened April 16, 2026
The first step came via a "Beta Testing Sign Up" blog published April 16, 2026, announced during that year's Galaxies Showcase. Team17 and Expression Games opened registration for upcoming playtests through hll-vietnam.firstlook.gg, paired with a beta sign-up trailer showing aerial combat, jungle firefights and patrol boats. Interest was visible early — the beta sign-up trailer drew hundreds of thousands of views, and Reddit threads on r/HellLetLoose and r/HellLetLooseVietnam pushed registration through the spring.
A Steam Free Weekend for the original Hell Let Loose also ran before Vietnam's launch, letting players sample the WW2 predecessor first.
The Open Beta Weekend (May 29 – June 1)
The headline event was a free Open Beta Weekend on Steam, running from May 29 to June 1 with the Thanh Hóa Bridge map playable ahead of launch. More than 350,000 players joined it, and the feedback funnel — surveys, Discord, Reddit and social clips — fed directly into the studio's decision to delay the game from June 18 to August 13 to work on performance and stability. Full details are on our open beta page.
The July Crossplay Playtest
The final pre-launch test ran July 24–27, 2026, and was the program's first cross-platform test, bringing together PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players. It introduced the Đắk Tô Airfield launch map and, by tester accounts, ran noticeably better than earlier builds. Community footage from the beta period — like jackfrags' beta gameplay video with 688k+ views — showed tunnel networks, Huey insertions, patrol boat runs and napalm strikes, alongside the rough edges the delay was meant to fix.
What happened to the beta?
The playtests ended with the launch. There's no separate beta client to join anymore — testing folded into the shipped game, and post-launch work continues through patches instead (1.2 and 1.3 landed in late August). If you missed the tests entirely, the review roundup and gameplay guide cover what the final game actually plays like.
